Minnesota West Football Earns Historic Record-Breaking Season

Minnesota West Community & Technical College's football team wrapped up a remarkable 2025 season, leaving a lasting mark on the program's history. Under the leadership of Head Coach Jermaine Smith and his staff, the Bluejays secured a third-place finish in the regular season and advanced to the semifinals of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Playoffs. But beyond wins and losses, this season was defined by standout performances, national recognition, and a flurry of broken records.

The Bluejays ended the year with a 5-4 record, but their offensive firepower told a bigger story. They were one of the top-scoring teams in the country, averaging 42.4 points per game and totaling 4,024 yards of offense—both new school records. In total, the team broke four offensive records this season:

  • Most points in a season: 382
  • Highest points per game: 42.4
  • Most passing yards in a season: 2,788
  • Most total offensive yards in a season: 4,024

Freshman quarterback Armon Vinson led the charge. Wearing jersey #7, Vinson quickly became one of the top junior college quarterbacks in the nation. He threw for 2,640 yards and 29 touchdowns, added 378 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns, and completed 66% of his passes. His total yardage for the season reached 3,018.

Vinson's performance earned him 1st Team All-MCAC honors and helped him break an incredible 10 school records, including:

  • Most passing yards in a season and career: 2,640
  • Most total yards in a season and career: 3,018
  • Most points in a game, season, and career: 42, 174, 174
  • Most touchdowns in a game, season, and career: 7, 34, 34

Sophomore punter Robin Braun, who also captains the men's soccer team, had a season to remember. He earned 1st Team All-MCAC honors and broke two school records:

  • Most extra points in a single game: 9
  • Most extra points in a career: 63
  • Braun's list of accomplishments includes:
  • 1st Team All Conference (2025)
  • 3rd Team All Conference (2024)
  • 1st Team NJCAA All-Academic
  • Ranked #1 punter in NJCAA Division III
  • Four-time Player of the Week

Minnesota West's success wasn't limited to a few players. A total of 14 Bluejays were named to the All-MCAC Team, highlighting the depth across the roster. The team's strong offense and defense made them one of the most competitive programs in the conference.

The 2025 season will be remembered not just for the wins, but for the energy, teamwork, and record-setting performances that defined it. The Bluejays have set a new standard!
